Subject says it all for the most part. I have an external USB hub connected to one on my Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports on my MacBook Air early 2020 model running Catalina 10.15.4. At random times during the day (2-3 times a day) my Logitech G602 mouse and external Apple Keyboard will stop responding completely and only a reboot will restore It also works with the Belkin USB-C to 4K HDMI adapter with the same cable. Two known, Apple-supported solutions that work. The 32UN880-B also supports three different DisplayPort versions on its associated input setting. I suggest. you go the HDMI route and recoup what may be additional lost time chasing the unsupported USB-C to USB-C issue
My usb c to monitor directly was working fine until yesterday, I unplugged the usb from monitor to move the cable and after plugging in, I get no display. I have reseted the monitor, I restarted the mac without connecting usb c. I even reseted NVRAM from recovery mode. I plugged off the power from monitor. I bought new usb c cable but no luck.
I have noticed the same behaviour - using a USB-C to DisplayPort connection or a USB-C hub (with HDMI). After a while, the external display blacks out and the display reverts to the internal laptop display only (MacBook Air M1, 512GB). What seems to make a difference is whether my MacBook is connected to power or running on battery.

How to Connect to an LG 5K Display. The LG UltraFine 5K Display (Model 27MD5KL-B) requires a Mac with a USB-C port or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port running macOS Mojave 10.14.6 or later, or an iPad with a USB-C port running iOS 12.4 or later.

If you are facing the issue of LG monitor USB ports not working, then there is nothing to worry about, as you can simply follow the above-mentioned solutions. Try updating the Windows, drivers, try using a different USB port, check the size of your USB, and if none of the solutions works, reset the LG monitor.
